Barcino Wine and Resto Bar
For nights when one simply wants to relax, sip wine, nibble on cheese and crackers then Barcino Wine and Restor Bar has you covered.
Thanks to Jessa (http://www.patchesoflifebyjessa.com), I finally got to try what Barcino has to offer. Located at the SM Aura’s Sky Park, Barcino features two areas depending on your mood. If you want a restaurant feel with a rustic ambiance then you can dine inside. This is best for family get togethers, corporate meetings or if you simply want an airconditioned place. However, You can also hang outside at the bar where you can relax on their couches and gaze at the water fountains.
The menu is Spanish Cuisine (think Paella) and lots of wine! Being newbies at Spanish Cuisine, we opted for the best sellers in the menu to save us from guessing.
Our meal started with their toasted bread with a tomato dip and olive oil. It was a good way to start the meal with something light and healthy. This was complimentary as we didn’t order this.
Then we followed our healthy start with fried croquettes. These potato filled balls have bits of chorizo inside and paired with a mayo-like dip. Simply yet satisfying!
Unsure of our next dish, our server suggested Pollo Al Ajillo. It had three chicken drumsticks sautéed with garlic, potatoes and wine. It was a bit spicy but easily countered with spoonfuls of…
This pan contains rice coated with a lot of squid ink, topped with five (5) pieces of squid and lemon to remove the fishy smell. The pan wasn’t too thick so expect your spoon to hit the bottom quickly. The rice was very filling and each bite provides ample squid ink flavor goodness. While it can be enough to eat on its own, it would be nice to be paired with any viand.
My personal experience with Paellas have a lot of toppings on it. This was very minimalist so you can easily isolate the flavor of what you are eating.
A family oriented restaurant wouldn’t be complete without their kid’s meal. Gladly Barcino has one and this was a hit with Rhyme. Thick chicken fingers and thick cut fries dipped in the same mayo-like dip as with the croquettes.
Lastly… we also had the..
and a glass of wine (Masia Freye Red Wine) to go with it.
I’m no wine and cheese expert so we asked the server to suggest which wine to pair with our cheese. He recommended the Masia Freye Red. It had this tart / bitter taste in every sip that makes me want to nibble on a cracker or cheese.
As for the cheeses (yes, me being ignorant on these two topics), they all looked the same to me except for the blue cheese and camembert cheese. Imagine my surprise to know that these cheese slices have different names. I enjoyed most of them although I still need more practice and knowledge in my wine-cheese experiences.
We had a great late lunch / early dinner at Barcino. The food was delicious; coupled by a nice ambiance makes it a great place to hang out. Wine lovers would love it here as they have a huge wine selection that would ensure all preferences have been met.
Disclosure: Barcino paid for our meal.
