It has been a while since I have visited Glorietta 5 especially when I saw that they were renovating it. Now a lot of new restaurants have popped out at the first and second floors so we went there one day to try them. The first one on our list was Kichitora of Tokyo. To be honest, I thought Kichitora serves katsus but I was wrong upon checking their menu. Kichitora of Tokyo is a ramen restaurant.

Kichitora prides itself with their broth which isn’t tonkotsu (pork bones) but chicken broth. It was a different experience that what I’m used to but it was a welcome experience! Here’s what we had for lunch.

Kichitora Gyoza

Kichitora Gyoza – PHP 150
The Japanese take this pan-fried dumpling in one bite, savoring the delicious blend of meat, vegetables, herbs and spices. A must-have addition to your ramen experience!

As much as possible, I order gyoza whenever I see it on the menu. The gyoza was pretty normal and a bit dry inside.

Kichitora Hokkaido Miso Ramen

Blended with special Hokkaido Miso, this very flavorful ramen is topped with minced pork, chicken or pork chashu, mixed vegetables, bamboo shoots (menma), spring onions, and fried garlic oil (ma-yu)

My personal order would be the Miso Ramen. It has a strong miso taste so I don’t like sipping it on its own. It has to be with the noodles and other toppings. I still did enjoy this especially the addition of minced pork! But, it pales in comparison to the butter corn miso ramen I had tried in another ramen house (Kenji Tei).

Kichitora Paitan Ramen Zenbu no Se

The no. 1 bestselling ramen! This special variation of the famous Paitan Chicken Ramen is topped with an additional piece of pork or chicken chashu, dried seaweed, molten lava egg (ajitsuke tamago), and given a dash of flavorful fried garlic oil (ma-yu)

Kichitora Paitan Ramen

The taste that started it all. Made using the original white broth, the Paitan Chicken Ramen is topped with your choice of chicken or pork chashu, bamboo shoots (menma), green vegetables and spring onions

These two dishes would be their best sellers. I would suggest that you always order the Paitan Ramen Zenbu No Se over the Paitan Ramen because for a PHP 60 difference, you get more toppings and a bigger serving size. The Paitan Ramen is like the mini version of the Paitan Ramen Zenbu No Se.

As this wasn’t my order, I just asked for a minor sip on the Paitan Ramen Zenbu No Se; Both of my eyes lit up after my first sip and minutes later, I was asking again for another sip. This was different from the Tonkotsu broths but it was as flavorful. It was like eating roasted chicken or pork in liquid form. The broth was a viand on its own!

Another thing that I want to add would be the thickness of their chicken or pork chashu. You get two pieces of thick chashu that you shouldn’t estimate biting into. More flavor! More Fun! Yummy!

Nothing beats cold weather than a bowl of hot soup; or better yet, a bowl of steaming hot ramen!
