Krispy Kroissant – Krisky Kreme’s Own Take of the Cronut
Today, my innocence on the cronut craze has been broken thanks to the new Baked Creations from Krispy Kreme called Krispy Kroissant. So what exactly is a cronut? According to Wikipedia, it is a hybrid of a croissant and a doughnut. It looks like a croissant from the outside where you see the familiar multiple layers and how you can peel it off when bite on it; and upon biting it, you would feel a rush of custard/cream suddenly exploding into your mouth (I kept on thinking about bavarian). But that’s not the only part where there’s flavor because what makes it more “doughnut-like” would be the glaze and the toppings it has and that’s where the variants come in.
My first experience of the cronut would be from Krispy Kreme. A difference from what I’ve learned would be Krispy Kreme bakes their cronuts instead of frying them (as per the original recipe). I wouldn’t know what the difference would be since I haven’t tried others yet.
Krispy Kroissant Strawberry – “filled with a rich whip of strawberry”
Krispy Kroissant Vanilla Cream – “dipped in sugar glaze”
Krispy Kroissant Chocolate – “topped with Belgian Chocolate ganache”
Krispy Kroissant Apple Cinnamon – mixed with caramelized cinnamon sugar topped with a serving of apple cinnamon
So far I have tried the chocolate and the apple cinnamon variants and I preferred the chocolate more. The chocolate on top wasn’t too sweet and it goes well with the cream. I’m more biased with regards to the taste of the cream and I noticed that the apple cinnamon’s glaze was overpowering it so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the chocolate version. I just need to be careful with eating it because it gets messy once you release the creaaaammmm.
Currently, Krispy Kreme says that they are baking this from 10am to 2pm… but I guess availability is until when stocks last. It costs PHp 325 for a box of 6.
