My Singapore Food Street Megamall

My Singapore Food Street (formerly Orchard Road) recently launched at SM Megamall. Currently at half the size of Orchard Road as half is currently under renovation, you would notice that they have changed the look of the restaurant. They still feature an open kitchen where you would see the cooks doing their thing however, the overall motif has changed from brown to red. Gone were the lights that gave you a feeling that you are eating outdoors at night as it was changed to a much brighter and casual restaurant feel.

We were given an introduction by Vivien Tan (owner) on Singaporean Cuisine and how it influenced her life. She mentioned how she would eat certain dishes depending on her food and it gives her an instant boost.  Jean Henri Lhuillier (owner – familiar surname right?) was also there in the launching.

Before the event officially started, we took the time to take photos of the dishes who were ready to pose for us.

Now imagine how I felt while taking pictures of these mouth-watering dishes at around noon and I haven’t even eaten breakfast yet.

I’m glad that a few minutes later, food was served!

My Singapore Food Street – Croquette and Spring Rolls

We started our meal with appetizers; Croquette which I didn’t like (not a fan of potatoes) and spring rolls which I liked.

I was expecting this dish to be served last as this would be the highlight but I was surprised that it got served after the appetizers. I wasted no time in mixing the soy sauce and ginger, and happily ate this with gusto. Finally! The fast was broken! It was delicious and my only problem was that we ran out of the three sauces halfway through the meal.

The Hainanese chicken was followed by the Nasi Goreng and Laksa. I just tried a spoonful of Nasi Goreng and started sipping on the soup of Laksa. Despite the spiciness that made my face red, I liked the soup of Laksa that I couldn’t put down my spoon. I was glad I had a glass of water besides me.

For dessert, we had a dinosaur; The Frozen Milo Dinosaur. It was a milo shake topped with milo powder and chocolate syrup. It was good but nothing special…might need a few more glasses to change that thought.

Like what I experienced at Orchard Road, My Singapore Food Street continues to bring out great tasting Singaporean cuisine. Be sure to try out the Kopi Tarik and request that it be done in front of you for a demo like this…
