Sizzlin’ Steak, formerly Sizzling Pepper Steak, invited us to try their new Sizzling Beef Spanish Rice.

No wonder the cow logo was familiar. It was the same restaurant that I have tried years back but they have dropped  “pepper” in their name so that they won’t be mistaken for Pepper Lunch. Although they still have the same concept where your food will be served raw on a hot plate. The very hot plate will cook your food as you take time to take pictures. However,  do not forget to turn the meat else you will have an uncooked half and a burnt half.

Our mission that day was to try out their Sizzling Beef Spanish Rice. I had already tasted their Sizzlin’ beef rice so the beef should still be the same. The spotlight was on the rice. But before that, let’s have some appetizers first.

Sizzlin Steak - Chili Con Carne Dip with Nachos

Nachos are only as good as their dip and with Sizzlin’ Steak’s Chili Con Carne Dip; it was very good! It was a mix of cheesy, beany (if there’s such word) and mild spicy that you can always end with a crunch.

Sizzlin Steak - Burger Steak

Although not really an appetizer, it was just enough to start-up our appetites. The burger steak (ala carte) tasted and felt like the salisbury steak so I was looking for egg to go with it.

Now let us move to the Spanish Rice. At first glance, we can associate it with paella because of the color and for it being called “Spanish”. However, they do have differences as Paella is generally stickier like Risotto. The spanish rice is more of our fried rice with tomatoes, chorizo and topped with egg. It is very filling on its own and the having the beef amplifies the fullness that you will feel.

Sizzlin’ steak stays true to their goal to serve affordable yet filling rice meals to everyone. The launch of the beef spanish rice helps on that cause. If the thick beef slices (compromises tenderness) doesn’t fill you up, the Spanish rice will.

Disclosure: Sizzlin’ Steak paid for our meal.
