Tokyo Tokyo Matsuri of Cheese Tonkatsu and Snow Ice

Tokyo Tokyo Matsuri of Cheese Tonkatsu and Snow Ice

Tokyo Tokyo Cheese Tonkatsu

Let’s start with a little trivia. Matsuri is a Japanese word that means festival. Recently, Tokyo Tokyo has started their Fire and Ice Matsuri to welcome their newest products which are the Cheese Tonkatsu and the Snow Ice (a group of ice desserts).

The festival (event) was held at their BGC branch (Net Lima Building). It was my first time to go there as I usually visit their Makati branches. The place was decorated with red and white lanterns and while waiting for the start of the festivities, we were served the following snacks.

another first for me. I can feel the fire burning at each bite but that just gives me a reason to indulge in their yummy red iced tea

For the fire, we were served the Cheese Tonkatsu. It comes with rice and shredded cabbage topped with sesame dressing. Honestly, I haven’t tried even just their pork tonkatsu yet because I usually got for their chicken teriyaki or beef misono so I don’t have a basis for comparison. But from what we saw and ate, it is still their pork tonkatsu but with a cheesy twist. Upon lifting a piece of the tonkatsu, you can immediately see the cheese oozing out and shouting, “bite me now else I’ll fall on your shirt!

Following the orders of the cheese, I took a bite and savored the cheesy goodness. The breading of the tonkatsu was thin and crunchy; while the pork was thinly sliced and easy to cut (except a few misbehaving parts that I had trouble slicing). I just find the cheese too overpowering to eat with the rice but then; less carbs for me!

Tokyo Tokyo Snow Ice (Ice)

For the ice, we were served with three new desserts. Tokyo Tokyo’s inspiration for these items would be the Kakigori or simply, shaved ice that’s popular in Japan. The ice has a vanilla flavor and looks very smooth! I actually mistook it for macapuno strips that first time I saw it.

Tokyo Tokyo Halo Halo

This would be their take for the popular Filipino dessert. It contains leche flan cube, an ube ball, nata and corn flakes for you to “halo“. The ice was perfect for mixing! While they melt, they don’t stick together that usually causes us to have crunchy halo halo.

Next would be the Mango Peach with cherry on the top. It was literally what the name implies.

Tokyo Tokyo Choco Sensation - see the layer of ice in this pic?

Lastly, we have the choco sensation that has a cherry, marshmallow and brownie cubes; drizzled with chocolate syrup.

My personal favorite would be the halo halo as it was the only one that I felt was perfect for mixing to really enjoy the ingredients and the shaved ice. As for the other two, I found myself eating the toppings first followed by the shaved ice.
